I have a swollen lymph node for 1 year. No other symptoms. Is it cause for concern? Details expnded in box.
Hello doctor.
I am a 17 year old girl. Doc I have a swollen lymph (I think) about an inch below my hairline behind my neck. I saw it for the first time in November of 2020. I have to let you know that it was atime my thyroid levels were really low and was not on medication. was told that it was okay by a relative who is a nurse. But now I am tensed that it has not gone down.i don't feel or see any other swelling or symptoms. I also had surgery last month to remove a benign tumour from my hard palate. Do you think that it was caused by my hypothyroidism or tumour or is it something worse? Is it a cause of concern? Should I visit a GP?

It is understandable to be concern and worried if the lymph node is present for so long.  First,  it is important to ascertain that the swelling is due to a lymph node.  An examination is needed to properly assess this lump.  Please see your GP for a detail check up and treatment.  If necessary, an aspiration or biopsy may be to determine the nature of the swelling and the underlying cause.

The chance of it being due to your hypothyroidism is low.
