What comes after steroid in sinus treatment?
I’ve had sinusitis for 3 weeks—painful sinus headache, congestion & dizziness. NO runny nose. Dr first prescribed 10 day doxycycline. No change. I took decongestants and Benadryl. No change. Dr stopped decongestants and Benadryl. Prescribed loratadine, nasonex and 6 day taper prednisone. I’m feeling a lot better. Dizziness and pain are gone. Still some intermittent congestion/can’t always smell out of right nostril. I finish steroid in 3 days. Next step?

Continue to return to the same doctor for a follow up.  You have acute sinusitis.  There is a good chance you will be well if properly and adequately treated. Sometimes, you may need a longer course of antibiotics. Your smell should improve once your infection settles. If you have relapsing symptoms or persistent poor sense of smell, please discuss with your primary doctor on whether you need to see an Ear Nose Throat Specialist.
