10 Questions with Dr Kenneth Tan

Published14 Apr 2022

How would you introduce yourself?

Hi, I’m Kenneth, a Family Physician with a private practice in Punggol East. I provide quality primary care in my clinic, and help patients reach their health goals. I keep up to date by engaging in continual learning, and play a role in teaching and developing younger doctors.

What motivated you to practice medicine?

I enjoy solving problems and want to help improve the health of my patients. I’m also interested in contributing to the development of medical practice.

What's your specialty and why did you choose it?

My specialty is Family Medicine and I chose it as I felt it is an important field that serves the healthcare needs of a majority of Singaporeans.

What do you feel most proud of as a doctor?

I’m proud of the opportunity to serve my community and make my patients feel better. Seeing my patients take steps to improve their health and enjoying the benefits of health makes me happy.

What are your goals for the future?

Doing my part to improve primary health care for Singaporeans and counselling patients on effective treatments that address my patient’s needs.

How do you prepare for work?

I have a light breakfast in the morning and a cup of coffee. I enjoy listening to tech shows on YouTube on my way to work.

Have you found anything particularly helpful in your journey to where you are today?

Interacting with colleagues and mentors in both the public and private healthcare system has been instrumental in my development. Mentors like Dr Leong Choon Kit and Dr Victor Loh have been very inspiring to me. Colleagues such as my class’s chat group, and senior doctors in GP+ Co-operative and Class PCN chat groups have also given me timely advice. The opportunities to network with other doctors today are much greater than before!

What's your advice for doctors who are just starting out?

Believe in your vision of an ideal practice and find patients and colleagues who value the same.

What do you do for fun?

I like practicing muay thai and social dancing. Muay Thai is an athletic activity that keeps me fit, and social dancing is a great way to meet people outside of the medical profession.

Where can we go to learn more about you and your work?

You can take a look at my website ktmc.sg.
