9 month old with hives
Baby had an ear infection and was prescribed Amoxicillin. After the 10 days were over, he went back to the doctor and he still had an ear infection. Doctor prescribed Amoxicillin with Clavulanate and after the 3rd dose, he broke out in hives. We took him to the ER and doctor switched his medication assuming it was a reaction. It has been over 24 hours since we stopped the previous prescription, and he is still breaking out. Hives will appear and then disappear and reappear in other spots. How long does it take for the Amoxicillin to leave his system? Is this something else causing these hives?

Dear @Mundinger19. It can take 2-3 days for the antibiotics to be fully removed from the body system. Urticaria/ hives can be triggered by medications/ food. It can also be induced by infection such as that affecting his ears. Oral anti histamines are effective against urticaria and I will suggest you bring your child back to the doctor for an evaluation if the urticaria is till not subsiding. Hope this helps.
