frequently going to urinate at night
i am man 51 years old, eastern (color skin)
I am using 5mg Amlodipine for treatment of HBP, working very good. Meaning, my blood pressure is say maintained at 120/80. Started about two years ago.

I am going to bathroom for urinate 3 to 5 times a night, making my sleep not good. This is my problem. I really don't recall when this became a problem. Let us say 4 years, became worse in tte last couple of years. I am not taking any medicine for that.

I am also frequently going to urinate during day time. Since over 30 years i noticed that, ultrasound and several doctor consultation in the past didn't recognize any issues, except my bleeder is close to my prostate, that is why i urinate frequently. During day, no problem, because i have access to bathroom, even so this is disturbing. Problem at night. I used to drink many tea during day time, and water. But this is not the reason. During day i go every 1.5 hours, and at night 3 times to 5 times.

The medical term for frequently waking up at night to urinate is nocturia. Broadly, this may be because of excessive urine production in general (poorly controlled diabetes mellitus, diabetes insipidus), excessive urine production only at night (congestive heart failure, obstructive sleep apnea, certain drugs), inability to empty the bladder (prostate enlargement) or inability to fully fill the bladder (bladder overactivity, bladder inflammation).

A consultation with a urology doctor will help diagnose the cause and set you on the path toward a more restful night. Untreated nocturia is associated with a poorer quality of life and can lead to depression, cognitive dysfunction, and increased risk for falls and fractures.

@osshabib
Dr Lee, thank you
As I mentioned in my reply, I am taking 5mg Amlodipine. This is a kind of calcium blocker, which is worsen the condition for prostate.

My blood sugar is fine per blood test, when fasting 8 hours is less than 100 and is about 125 to 135 when fasting 2 hours.

What is the replacement recommended for 5 mg Amlodipine

Thank you

Dr Lee, thank you again. Maybe my blood sugar is high and I am not aware about it. Which is critical. Especially I feel dry mouth too. I will check my blood sugar more frequently, appreciate your kind and sincere help
